Choosing the Right Color for Your Project

Description

Choosing the right color for your crochet project can seem daunting. However, if you trust your intuition and use some of the tips and tricks shared by Mister Domestic, you’ll be able to create a beautiful and colorful piece that is uniquely you!

Mister Domestic begins by exploring the color wheel. If you feel very overwhelmed by combining different colors into your project, this is a great place to start. He first looks at picking two colors that are on the opposite sides of the color wheel. These colors are complementary and will look great it any crochet project. He then explores families of colors—which are three colors that are touching each other in the color wheel. You can purchase physical color wheels, or you can find a wide variety of color wheels online to help you choose your colors.

If you want to get outside of the color wheel, look for inspiration everywhere. Mister Domestic will look at fabric or at variegated yarns to help him choose colors for his next crochet project. For example, he takes a variegated yarn, picks out the individual colors, and pulls those solid-colored skeins from his yarn stash. He repeats that process with some colorful fabric and chooses yarn colors based on the fabric pattern.

At the end of the day, choosing colors for your project is just about what you love and what makes you happy. There is some science to what colors go together well, but what’s most important is finding your own inspiration and working with the colors that you think will look best for your project.

GREAT ideas of where you get your inspiration! That really helps me! I also love your fabric, it's beautiful. I don't sew at all & even hate to sew a button when it falls off something, but I sure appreciate others' talents.

Hi Mister Domestic. You are a good presenter. This is the first time I've watched one of your videos. Choosing colors for projects is a challenge for me. I'm sure others benefited from your comments starting from the beginning. Unfortunately you were half-way through the vid before you offered anything helpful to me on the subject -- very basic color wheel. I'm sure others benefited from your comments starting from the beginning. I do appreciate your advice to look at fabric prints for inspiration. Looking on the internet should be helpful, too. --just wish you had printed the name of the one website you mentioned individually. poollers or coollers? Thanks and keep up the good work.
