Description

In this video Mary Beth demonstrates how to create a cute granny stitch bandanna. Regardless of the size you are making, begin at the center top, and as rows are added it will grow in width as well as in length. Mary Beth is using a DK weight (CYC#3) bamboo-cotton blend yarn and a 4.5mm hook but you can use any size yarn/hook you like.

This bandanna is constructed as follows:
Ch 4.
Row 1: 2 DC in 4th ch from hook (the first 3 chs count as the first DC of the row), ch 3, 3 DC in same ch.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first DC), 2 DC in first st, (3 DC, ch 3, 3 DC) into ch 3 sp, skip the next 2 DC, 3 DC into following DC (into the top of the ch-3 turning ch).
Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as first DC), 2 DC in first st, 3 DC in space between 3-DC groups, (3 DC, ch 3, 3 DC) into ch 3 sp, 3 DC in space between 3-DC groups, skip the next 2 DC, 3 DC into following DC (into the top of the ch-3 turning ch).
Row 4: Ch 3 (counts as first DC), 2 DC in first st, 3 DC in each space between 3-DC groups, (3 DC, ch 3, 3 DC) into ch 3 sp, 3 DC in each space between 3-DC groups, skip the next 2 DC, 3 DC into following DC (into the top of the ch-3 turning ch).

Repeat Row 4 to desired size. Each repeat adds an additional 3-DC group on each side of the central ch-3.

After reaching desired size do not fasten off. Chain enough stitches to reach the desired length for one tie, then beginning with the second chain from hook, and working into the back bumps, slip stitch into each stitch across chain toward the bandanna.

Next, SC across the top edge of the bandanna for a nice smooth edge. When you reach the opposite point make a second tie just like before, chaining the same amount of stitches and working slip stitches back to the bandanna.
A picot edging finishes off the bottom edge of the bandanna nicely.

Work a SC in each of the next 2 stitches, ch 3, slip stitch into the first of these chains to create the picot bump, repeat from * around the edge. Mary Beth notes that you will need up to 5 SC stitches in the center ch-3 in order to keep it pointy. She also explains that it is ok to add more repeats or stitches as necessary in order to end up with a picot at the very tip of the bandanna. Slip stitch to fasten off at the base of the next tie. Weave in ends.
