Crocheted granny squares a popular motif that are fun and easy to make. There are so many different kinds of granny squares to explore. They are the perfect motif for projects like crocheted granny square blankets, pillows, and even toys. In this video, Mister Domestic explores a simple granny square motif – the solid double crochet granny square. Many traditional crocheted granny squares will have gaps (or spaces) in between the groups of double crochets. For the motif in this video, as the same suggests, the fabric is much more solid, with no chain spaces except for the corners.

To begin, Mister Domestic starts with a magic ring in order to ensure that the center of the granny square will also be solid. He chains three stitches (which counts as a double crochet) and then adds eleven more double crochets into the ring. He closes the ring by pulling the tail tight to close. The double crochet stitches spread out and form a circle. He slip stitches in the top of the chain to join.

Mister Domestic works the next round by creating a chain and then working a treble crochet into the same stitch. He notes that each corner will have a treble crochet, chain two, and another treble crochet. Next to each treble crochet, on either site, two double crochets are added into a stitch. All other stitches are double crochets.
