In this session, Brenda introduces you to the two adorable designs that are included in this class: the Rainbow Wall Hanging and Rainbow Pillow. Brenda discusses all the skills that you will learn in this class including how to single crochet and how to work slip stitches, the purpose and importance of making a gauge swatch, how to choose appropriate materials, and basic sewing skills for crocheters.
Brenda discusses the type of yarn needed for these projects. She talks about the thickness of the yarn, the fiber content, and the feel of it so that you know what to look for if you are looking for a substitution for the yarn listed in the pattern. Brenda walks us through the list of the materials that are used to create the projects in this class. She discusses the meaning and importance of gauge and how that will determine the hook size needed.
In session 3, Brenda shows us how to make a gauge swatch and explains how to use it to determine the hook size you should use. She discusses different ways to hold your hook and yarn and demonstrates how to make all the rectangular strips that make up this wall hanging using two basic stitches.
Brenda demonstrates all the steps and skills needed to assemble the Rainbow Wall-Hanging. You will learn how to prep the rope, and how to sew the crocheted pieces around the rope, as well as how to connect all the pieces together. Brenda shows us how to use a simple wooden ruler to give this project the necessary structure.
In this lesson Brenda shows us how to create all the pieces needed to make the pillow. She demonstrates how to make increases and shows us how they are used to create a curved shape. Brenda walks us through the color changes used to create the colorful stripes and explains the process for creating the 2 extra pieces for the “thickness” of the pillow.
Brenda prepares all the pieces for seaming by placing stitch markers in specific locations to make assembly easier. In this lesson you will see how to match up all the pieces and seam them together. You will also learn how to stuff your pillow evenly and how to finish your project.
