In this video, Mary Beth Temple demonstrates how to create this beautiful, colorful, structured edging. It is a fabulous choice for edging a blanket or cardigan! This edging can be worked in the round as well as back and forth in turned rows.

If you are working in the round, you will need to first work one round of a single crochet border: if you are using 3 colors, your stitch count will need to be in a multiple of 3. If you are working in 2 colors, you will begin with a multiple of 2. The base round needs to be in a multiple of however many colors you will be using.

Join 1st color with a slip stitch to any of the stitches around the border. Chain 4, extend last loop. Remove hook from loop. Join 2nd color with a sl st to the next available stitch, ch 4, extend last loop. Remove hook from loop. Join 3rd color with a sl st to the next available stitch, ch 4, extend last loop. Remove from hook. Place first color back on hook, bring chain and working yarn in front of work, sl st into the next available stitch, *ch 4, extend loop, remove hook from loop and place in next color. Bring chain and working yarn in front of work, sl st in next available stitch, repeat from * around, continuing to cycle through all of the colors.

Mary Beth notes that when you get to a corner, that you will need to chain 5 (instead of 4) in order for the chains to have enough length to bend around the corner.

At the end of the video, Mary Beth teaches us where to join each chain at the end of the round. This makes for and unbroken pattern, and a flawless finish!
