Blocking is a step that is often overlooked when finishing up a crochet project- but it shouldn’t be! This final step will fix a myriad of issues, such as uneven stitches, uneven gauge, and a stiff hand. It can even give your project extra drape and softness.

In this video, Brenda shows us two different methods for blocking a hat: wet blocking and steam blocking. As she walks us through both methods, she explains why you might choose one method over the other as well as which method to use for different fiber types. She also explains how to avoid blocking creases into the side edges of the hat by showing us how we can use a balloon and a mug!

Nearly every pattern instructs you to block your piece at the end, but very few patterns will give any suggestion on how to do the blocking. This video’s aim is to give us enough information about blocking so that we can decide which method to choose, and to block our pieces with confidence!
