Crochet Your Buttons On!

In this video, Brenda K. B. Anderson shares her secret technique for attaching a long row of buttons in almost no time at all! Note that this process will only work for buttons with a shank. After showing you this technique, Brenda demonstrates a way to make a decorative buttonhole edging; perfect for fastening to a long row of buttons. This edging is a bit unconventional since you work in two different directions, but it is easy to do, and makes a very polished, sturdy row of buttonholes.

Brenda points out that the number of slip stitches between buttons, should match the number of single crochet stitches that are made in the first step of creating each buttonhole. To make a wider buttonhole, begin with more single crochet stitches, work a matching number of chains, then work the same amount of single crochet stitches into the chain loop + a couple extra so that they are packed close together. Note the number of single crochets that you used to fill the chain space so that you can stay consistent for working more buttonholes.

These techniques would pair perfectly in fingerless mittens, legwarmers, down the side of a skirt, or along the front opening in a romantic cardigan! Once you know how quick and easy it really is to attach an entire row of buttons, you will never again avoid projects with lots of buttons!
