Alpine Stitch
Brenda K.B. AndersonLooking for a stitch pattern with beautiful texture? In this video, crochet instructor Brenda K. B. Anderson teaches us how to work up this gorgeous post-stitch crochet pattern called the Alpine Stitch! The resulting fabric has moderate stretch and great drape, without large holes between stitches. The Alpine stitch is great for blankets, pillows, and other home décor as well as garments and cold-weather accessories like hats and mittens.

This stitch pattern is shown worked in turned rows. Brenda is using a worsted weight yarn and an H/8 (4.5mm hook), but the Alpine Stitch also looks great in other gauges such as in a thin yarn with a smaller hook or chunky weight yarn on a larger hook. The Alpine stitch is a 4-row repeat that is easy and intuitive to memorize.
Follow along as Brenda demonstrates each row and gives you tips for understanding how the stitches relate to each other, making it easier to read your stitches and to know which stitch comes next.
