Thermal Stitch
Brenda K.B. AndersonThe thermal stitch is a very unusual crochet pattern that is a variation of a single crochet stitch. What makes it different, is the unexpected placement of the hook when working your stitches, which allows you to make a fabric that is twice as thick as normal. In this video, Brenda K. B. Anderson teaches us step-by-step how to work in this unique stitch pattern.
The thermal stitch is a very structured stitch pattern which is great for bags and bag straps, cushion covers, hotpads or trivets, coasters, baskets, and placemats. Be sure to use wool or cotton for any hot pads or trivets as these fibers are heat resistant and will not melt. If crocheted from a lofty yarn or worked up at a slightly looser gauge, this stitch pattern makes great scarves, hats, and other warm accessories.
One additional bonus of the thermal stitch is that it creates a gridded fabric, perfect for working cross-stitch on!
