Yarn-over vs Yarn-under

Brenda K.B. Anderson
Duration:   8  mins

Have you ever heard of doing a yarn-under instead of a yarn-over? In the last few years there have been many crocheters using an alternate way to wrap the yarn around the hook. This has been particularly popular with those who love to make amigurumi. Using a yarn-under will make slightly smaller, shorter, and tighter stitches. This is beneficial for amigurumi makers since it is so important to stitch with a tight tension for structure and to keep the stuffing from showing between stitches. Since we wrap the yarn around the hook on two separate occasions when making single crochet stitches, there are two places where we could choose to swap out our usual yarn-overs with yarn-unders. Brenda shows us the difference between the two methods and also compares two pieces that were made: one with yarn-overs and one with yarn-unders.
